The Ducati Desertx V2 is the accessible route into Ducati’s rally raid inspired adventure family, a machine built to look every inch the works Dakar racer while remaining genuinely usable for long days of road and trail riding. Where the flagship Desertx leans on a V4, the V2 keeps things simpler and lighter without losing the presence that has made the model such a striking addition to the adventure class.
Power comes from the familiar 937cc Testastretta 11 degree L-twin, a desmodromic four valve unit that produces 110hp at 9,250rpm and 92Nm of torque at 7,000rpm. It drives through a six speed gearbox via a hydraulically controlled slipper clutch, giving strong, tractable drive whether the bike is loaded for touring or being worked hard standing on the pegs off road. The spread of power is broad enough to make technical trail sections manageable without constant gear changes, then pulls cleanly through to a proper top end on the open road.
The chassis is built around a monocoque aluminium frame, carrying a fully adjustable 46mm KYB upside down fork offering 230mm of travel and a fully adjustable KYB monoshock at the rear with 220mm of travel, both tuned to soak up rough ground while staying composed at speed. Braking comes from radially mounted Brembo Monobloc four piston callipers gripping twin 320mm front discs, backed by a 265mm rear disc, with Bosch Cornering ABS calibrated for the Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tyres fitted front and rear. At 209kg with an 875mm seat height and a 1,608mm wheelbase, it strikes a manageable balance between stability at speed and manoeuvrability when the going gets technical.
A five inch TFT display keeps key information visible in all conditions, and an 18 litre tank gives the range needed to get well away from fuel stops. The riding position, screen and switchgear all carry over the flagship’s rally look, so nothing about the experience feels like a lesser machine. It suits riders who want one bike capable of a green lane at the weekend and a proper long tour the next, without the size or cost of the range topping V4.
