The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R is a true championship-winning supersport machine, built on the foundations of seven WorldSBK riders’ and manufacturers’ titles and sharpened further with aerodynamic winglets and aggressive new bodywork. It represents the direct link between Kawasaki’s factory racing programme and the machine sat in a showroom, engineered to be ridden hard on road or track, with styling that makes no secret of its competition ancestry.
Its 998cc liquid-cooled in-line four, with DOHC 16-valve heads, a 76 by 55mm bore and stroke, a 13.0:1 compression ratio and dual fuel injection through 47mm throttle bodies, produces 149.3kW (203PS) at 13,200rpm and 114.9Nm of torque at 11,400rpm. That output is sent through a six-speed cassette gearbox and wet multi-disc clutch, giving the kind of hard-charging top-end rush that has made the ZX-10R legendary, while remaining genuinely tractable low down thanks to digital ignition, an oil-cooled wet sump and the sealed chain final drive putting it cleanly to the road.
A twin-spar cast aluminium frame with 105mm of trail keeps the 207kg machine agile, running a 43mm inverted Balance Free Front Fork with an external compression chamber and 120mm of travel, and a Horizontal Back-link rear shock with a piggyback reservoir and 115mm of travel, across a 1,450mm wheelbase and 135mm of ground clearance. Dual semi-floating 330mm Brembo discs with Brembo M50 monobloc calipers provide the stopping power, working through 120-section front and 190-section rear tyres, and the 835mm seat height puts the rider in an authentically sporting position. The aerodynamic winglets bolted to the fairing generate genuine downforce at speed, helping keep the front wheel planted under hard acceleration in the lower gears, while the cassette-style gearbox, a detail borrowed straight from Kawasaki’s World Superbike paddock, lets ratios be swapped without splitting the engine cases.
WorldSBK-developed Balance Free suspension front and rear manages weight transfer under hard braking and acceleration for genuinely precise handling, backed by a state-of-the-art electronics package and a 17 litre tank tuned to keep that power usable on the road as well as the circuit. It suits committed riders chasing genuine race-derived performance they can still ride to the shop.
