Ducati Formula 73

The Ducati Formula 73 is a stripped back roadster that reaches into the marque’s racing past for its styling, built around the air-cooled twin-cylinder character that has always defined this side of the Ducati range. Power comes from an 803cc L-twin, its 88mm by 66mm bore and stroke and 11.0:1 compression ratio producing a lively 73hp at 8,250rpm and 65.2Nm of torque at 7,000rpm, with desmodromic valve timing sent through a slick six speed gearbox and a hydraulically controlled slipper clutch that makes for engaging, involving back road riding without undue effort at the lever. A chain final drive on a 15 tooth front and 46 tooth rear sprocket completes the transmission. The delivery favours character over outright numbers, rewarding a rider who uses the gearbox rather than leaning on sheer horsepower.

A tubular steel Trellis frame, the structural signature of classic Ducati twins, carries a 41mm Kayaba upside down fork and a preload adjustable Kayaba rear shock over a compact 1,434mm wheelbase, tuned for a comfortable yet composed ride rather than outright track focus. A 330mm front disc with a radial four piston calliper and a 245mm rear disc with a floating single piston calliper, both managed by Bosch Cornering ABS, provide confident stopping power, while Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tyres in 120/70 R17 front and 180/55 R17 rear sizes complete a chassis that, at 183kg with an accessible 808mm seat height and a 14.5 litre tank, feels light and manageable in daily use.
