The Honda XL750 Transalp revives one of Honda’s most respected adventure nameplates, a name that built its reputation crossing the Alps decades ago and now returns as a genuinely capable mid-size machine for road and off-road riding alike. A 21 inch front wheel and long travel suspension mark it out as a serious adventure bike rather than a road bike simply wearing adventure styling. The name alone carries decades of adventure touring credibility that few rivals can match.
Power comes from a 755cc parallel twin, with an oversquare 87mm by 63.5mm bore and stroke, an 11 to 1 compression ratio and a 270 degree crank for real character, producing 67.5kW at 9,500rpm and 75Nm of torque at 7,250rpm through a six speed gearbox. Honda’s E-Clutch system is available, offering the choice of full manual control or smooth, clutch lever free changes, with an assisted slipper clutch keeping downshifts settled when the surface underneath turns loose or unpredictable.
A diamond steel frame carries a fully adjustable Showa 43mm SFF-CA upside down fork with a generous 200mm of travel, paired with a Prolink monoshock offering 190mm of travel at the rear, genuinely long travel suspension built to absorb serious off-road hits without complaint. An axial mounted two piston caliper and 310mm floating double disc handle front braking, with a 256mm rear disc and single piston caliper completing the setup. That 21 inch front wheel, wearing a 90/90-21 tyre, and a 150/70R18 rear give real off-road composure, and with 210mm of ground clearance and 27 degrees of rake, the Transalp shrugs off rutted tracks as readily as it does a fast A-road. At 216kg, with a 1,560mm wheelbase, it remains light and easy to handle despite an 850mm seat height.
Switchable riding modes tailor power delivery and rider aids to the terrain, and a protective skid plate guards the underside on rougher ground, while a generous 16.9 litre tank extends the range between stops.
