The Ducati Hypermotard V2 SP is the sharpest version of Ducati’s supermoto, a bike built around the idea that the most fun you can have on tarmac involves a wide handlebar, a tall riding position and an engine that responds the instant you ask. The SP takes that recipe and tightens every part of it for riders who intend to use the performance.
The engine is the 890cc Testastretta 11 degree L-twin, a Desmodromic four valve per cylinder unit producing 84kW, or 114hp, at 9,000rpm with 96Nm of torque at 7,250rpm. What the numbers do not convey is the shape of the delivery: the twin pulls hard and cleanly from the middle of the rev range, so a series of second and third gear corners becomes a continuous drive out of one and into the next. A six speed gearbox handles the ratios.
The chassis is what makes a supermoto feel alive. Telescopic forks and a monoshock give the long travel and quick weight transfer that let you brake late, get the bike turned and drive out early. Braking comes from twin 320mm semi floating discs with radially mounted Monobloc calipers, powerful enough to change your line halfway into a corner. It rides on Pirelli Diablo Rosso rubber, weighs 194kg at the kerb and carries a 1,493mm wheelbase, with a tall 870mm seat that gives the commanding view and the leverage this style of riding depends on.
Ducati quotes the Desmodromic valve system as the reason the twin can rev as hard as it does while keeping its low speed manners, and it is a large part of why this engine feels so different to a conventional parallel twin. The 16 litre tank means a proper morning out before you need to think about fuel.
