The Ducati Hypermotard V2 blends supermoto attitude with proper V-twin muscle, sitting above the single cylinder 698 Mono in the range for riders who want the same playful, stand up riding style backed by significantly more mid range shove. It is built for punchy, engaging riding across all kinds of roads and surfaces, equally at home hopping kerbs in town or attacking a fast, flowing back road.
Its 890cc 90 degree V-twin, with a 96mm by 61.5mm bore and stroke and 13.1:1 compression, uses variable intake valve timing to broaden the spread of power, producing a strong 120.4hp at 10,750rpm and 94Nm of torque at 8,250rpm, noticeably more than the single cylinder Mono offers. Drive runs through a six speed gearbox fitted with the latest Ducati Quick Shift up and down for fast, clutchless changes, a wet multiplate slipper clutch under hydraulic actuation keeping the lever light, while full ride-by-wire electronic fuel injection, with one injector per cylinder, sharpens throttle response for the precise, immediate feel that supermoto riding demands.
A monocoque aluminium frame with a 1,514mm wheelbase carries a fully adjustable 46mm KYB fork with 170mm of travel and a Kayaba rear shock adjustable for preload and rebound with 160mm of travel, giving the chassis the composure to handle hard landings without losing its playful edge. Twin 320mm front discs, gripped by radial Brembo Monobloc M4.32 four piston callipers, and a 245mm rear disc with Cornering ABS provide strong, well controlled braking, running on Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tyres in 120/70 ZR17 front and 190/55 ZR17 rear sizes. At 180kg, it carries the extra weight of the twin cylinder engine without losing the model’s fundamentally light, flickable character.
Its tall, motocross inspired riding position, wide handlebars and compact 12.5 litre tank give confident control when flicking between corners or hopping kerbs, exactly as the Hypermotard concept demands. It suits riders who want a supermoto’s playfulness but with more outright muscle and torque than the smaller Mono provides.
