The Ducati Multistrada V4 Pikes Peak is the sports focused flagship of the Multistrada range, its name drawn from Ducati’s hillclimb heritage at the famous Colorado race and its set up tuned for a sharper, more aggressive ride than any other adventure model in the line-up. Where the standard V4 balances comfort and capability, the Pikes Peak leans hard towards outright cornering performance.
It shares the 1,158cc V4 Granturismo engine of the standard V4, with the same 83mm by 53.5mm bore and stroke, 14:1 compression and counter-rotating crankshaft, and produces the full 170hp at 10,750rpm and 124Nm of torque at 9,000rpm through a six speed gearbox fitted with Ducati Quick Shift up and down, driving through a chain final drive on a 16 tooth front and 42 tooth rear sprocket over a 1,595mm wheelbase, marginally longer than the standard V4’s. What sets the riding experience apart is the electronics behind that power, with dedicated Race and Sport riding modes easing off traction and wheelie control intervention to let the engine’s full performance through in a way the standard bike’s modes do not.
Semi-active Ohlins Smart EC suspension, a 48mm fork and TTX36 monoshock, adapts damping in real time to riding conditions, sharpening the chassis without sacrificing control when leant hard into a bend. Twin 330mm front discs with Brembo Stylema four piston callipers and a 280mm rear disc, backed by Cornering ABS calibrated to allow controlled rear wheel lift under hard braking, unlock genuinely sporty stopping performance rather than simply prioritising safety margins. Sportier 17 inch Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tyres, a 120/70 ZR17 front and 190/55 ZR17 rear, in place of the standard V4’s more trail biased rubber, sharpen turn in and grip on tarmac. At 227kg, it carries its performance intent through every part of the specification.
A 22 litre tank keeps distance between fuel stops respectable despite the sportier focus. It suits riders who want adventure touring capability but expect genuinely corner carving handling when the road turns twisty, rather than a soft focus tourer.
