The Ducati Multistrada V4 is the flagship of Ducati’s adventure touring range, engineered to cover continents in genuine comfort rather than simply looking the part. Above it in the range sit only the more focused Rally, Pikes Peak and RS variants, making the standard V4 the core, do everything expression of Ducati’s biggest touring platform.
Its 1,158cc V4 Granturismo engine, with an 83mm by 53.5mm bore and stroke and 14:1 compression, uses a counter-rotating crankshaft, a deliberate piece of engineering that counteracts the gyroscopic forces generated by the wheels and makes the whole bike feel lighter and more agile than its size suggests. It produces a substantial 170hp at 10,750rpm and 124Nm of torque at 9,000rpm, sent through a six speed gearbox with Ducati Quick Shift up and down for smooth, clutchless changes regardless of load, a self servo wet multiplate clutch with slipper action on the over-run and a chain final drive on a 16 tooth front and 42 tooth rear sprocket completing the transmission. Continental ride-by-wire fuel injection through elliptical throttle bodies delivers crisp, precise response, while a stainless steel exhaust with double catalytic converter keeps things clean without blunting performance.
An aluminium monocoque frame with a 1,566mm wheelbase carries a fully adjustable 50mm upside down fork and a fully adjustable monoshock with remote spring preload adjustment, letting riders dial in the set up for a solo blast or a fully loaded tour in moments. Twin 320mm front discs, gripped by Brembo M50 Stylema callipers, and a 265mm rear disc provide strong, progressive braking, while 19 inch front and 17 inch rear Pirelli Scorpion Trail II tyres and 220mm of ground clearance keep it capable on poor surfaces as well as motorways. At 229kg, it carries its weight low and manages it well for a machine of this scale.
An adjustable seat spanning a wide 790mm to 861mm range and a generous 22 litre tank support genuinely long days in the saddle, whatever the rider’s size. It suits riders planning serious mileage, whether commuting daily or touring much further afield.
