The Ducati Panigale V4 R is a homologation special, built not to be the friendliest Panigale but to legalise Ducati’s World Superbike weapon for the road, and it is engineered to a different brief entirely from the rest of the V4 line-up. Its Desmosedici Stradale R V4 is actually smaller than the standard V4’s, at 998cc rather than 1,103cc, a deliberate change that keeps it within World Superbike’s capacity rules. An 81mm bore and a short 48.4mm stroke, with a 14.0:1 compression ratio, let it rev to an extraordinary 15,750rpm, where it produces 218hp, with 114.5Nm of torque arriving at 12,000rpm.
Drive goes through a six speed gearbox and a hydraulically controlled slipper dry clutch, a genuine race derived component rather than the wet clutch used elsewhere in the range, built to cope with repeated hard use on track, with final drive through a 520 chain and a 16 tooth front sprocket. Suspension is equally focused, with a fully adjustable Ohlins NPX pressurised fork using TiN treatment at the front and a fully adjustable Ohlins TTX36 shock at the rear, mounted to an aluminium hollow symmetrical swingarm with adjustable pivot position and tie rod length so racers can fine tune geometry for a given circuit.
Brembo Monobloc Hypure calipers, Cornering ABS and eCBS handle braking, working on a 245mm rear disc, while Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP-V4 tyres, a 200 section at the rear, put the power down, and a 6.9 inch TFT dash and a race tuned exhaust with six lambda probes keep the electronics and emissions control track ready. At 186.5kg with an 855mm seat height and a 1,477mm wheelbase, every dimension is set up for outright pace over comfort. This is a homologation model built first for Ducati’s World Superbike programme and only secondly for the road, so it rewards riders who intend to spend serious time on a circuit rather than commuting.
It suits track focused owners who want the nearest thing to a factory Superbike grid machine registered for the road. Book a test ride at GT Motorcycles, your Ducati dealer in Plymouth, serving riders across Devon and Cornwall, with finance available on this flagship homologation special.
