The Honda CB1000GT takes the CB1000 family’s four-cylinder muscle and points it firmly at the horizon, adding proper touring equipment to genuine sports bike pace. It shares its engine architecture with the naked CB1000 Hornet and retro CB1000F but is set up specifically for covering big miles in comfort, with a screen, luggage-friendly ergonomics and electronic suspension that the other two do without. It sits above both as the long-distance option in the family, for riders who want to cover serious mileage without swapping to a full-dress tourer.
Its 1,000cc liquid-cooled DOHC 16-valve inline-four, with a 76 x 55.1mm bore and stroke and 11.7:1 compression, produces 110.1kW at 11,000rpm and 102Nm of torque at 8,750rpm. A six-speed gearbox with an assist and slipper clutch and an up and down quickshifter allows fast, clutchless changes in both directions, whether accelerating hard away from a junction or dropping down through the gears on the approach to a roundabout, while refined fuel injection and Throttle By Wire keep that power accessible and smooth from low revs right through to the top of the range.
Electronically controlled Showa EERA suspension, a 41mm USD fork with 130mm of travel up front and a monoshock with 144mm at the rear, adjusts damping on the move to suit road conditions and riding style, working alongside a six axis IMU and cornering ABS for genuine confidence when leant into a bend, wet or dry. Dual 310mm front discs with Nissin four-piston radial calipers and a 240mm rear disc provide the stopping power. At 229kg, with a 1,465mm wheelbase and an 825mm seat height, it carries its weight well once rolling despite the extra touring equipment fitted over the naked CB1000 models.
A five-position adjustable windscreen, plush, vibration-damped seating and wide grab rails keep rider and pillion comfortable over long days in the saddle, while a generous 21 litre tank stretches the distance between fuel stops on longer trips. The CB1000GT suits riders who want sports bike performance and four-cylinder character without giving up comfort on longer journeys, whether commuting daily or touring further afield.
