The Honda CB125R is the sharpest, most premium expression of Honda’s Neo Sports Cafe design language, shrunk down to A1 licence capacity for riders as young as seventeen. Built for new riders who want genuine style as well as substance, it looks every inch the proper motorcycle rather than a scaled-down learner bike, sharing its concentrated, minimalist design language with the CB300R and CB650R further up Honda’s naked range. Every line is drawn to look expensive, from the concentrated tail unit to the exposed rear shock, rather than simply shrinking down a bigger model’s styling.
A liquid-cooled 124.9cc DOHC single, with a four-valve head, a 57.3 x 48.4mm bore and stroke and an 11.3:1 compression ratio, produces 11kW at 10,000rpm and 11.6Nm of torque at 8,000rpm, strong figures for a 125. PGM-FI fuel injection delivers a crisp, responsive throttle through a six-speed gearbox, unusually tall gearing for its class, with a wet multiplate clutch and an O-ring sealed chain putting that power down cleanly and reliably, mile after mile.
An inner pivot diamond frame carries 41mm SFF-BP upside-down forks and a single-damper monoshock, the same architecture used further up Honda’s naked range, for handling that feels far more accomplished and planted than its capacity suggests. A 296mm disc with a radial-mount Nissin four-piston caliper up front and a 220mm disc with a single-piston caliper at the rear give strong, progressive stopping power well beyond what most 125s offer. At 130kg, with a 1,345mm wheelbase and an 816mm seat height, it is light, flickable and genuinely easy to master, yet rewarding as skills develop. Wide handlebars and a natural, slightly forward-leaning riding position add to the sense that this is a small bike built with big-bike intentions.
A full-colour five-inch TFT screen displays speed, fuel consumption and gear position with real clarity, lifting the cockpit well above typical learner-bike fare, and a 10.1 litre tank keeps the concentrated, minimalist bodywork compact without sacrificing usable range.
