The Honda CBR1000RR R Fireblade is Honda’s flagship supersports machine, developed hand in hand with HRC to bring genuine MotoGP-level technology to the road. It is the most powerful production Fireblade Honda has built, and every part of it, from the engine internals to the aerodynamics, is engineered around outright track performance rather than everyday compromise. Everything about it, from its compact dimensions to its aggressive riding stance, is dictated by what makes it fastest around a circuit.
A 999.9cc water-cooled inline-four, with an 81 x 48.5mm bore and stroke and a towering 13.6:1 compression ratio, produces a huge 160kW at 14,000rpm and 113Nm of torque at 12,000rpm. Intake and cylinder head upgrades add extra mid-range punch that earlier Fireblades lacked, revised six-speed gearbox ratios sharpen drive out of corners, and Two Motor Throttle By Wire delivers pinpoint precision at every point in the rev range, all fed through a wet multiplate hydraulic clutch that copes easily with the engine’s ferocious output.
An aluminium twin-tube frame is suspended on an Ohlins NPX 43mm fork with 125mm of stroke and an Ohlins TTX36 Pro-Link shock with 143mm of stroke, both with full preload, compression and rebound adjustment to suit road or track use. A 330mm front disc with a radial-mount Brembo Stylema R four-piston caliper and a 220mm rear disc with a Brembo two-piston caliper provide immense stopping power, fitted with Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP or Bridgestone RS11 tyres for maximum grip. At 201kg, with a 1,455mm wheelbase, 115mm of ground clearance and an 830mm seat height, it is built for committed, race-focused riding, with a close-coupled position, rear-set footpegs and low clip-on bars that keep the rider tucked in tight behind the screen.
Updated fairing winglets generate genuine aerodynamic downforce with less steering effort at speed, whether carving through bends on a favourite road or hitting apex after apex on track, and a 16.5 litre tank keeps stops to a minimum between sessions.
