The Honda CBR600RR defines the supersport middleweight class, a razor-sharp track weapon built by HRC that has dominated the 600cc category for two decades. It remains the yardstick against which every other middleweight sports bike is measured, and its race pedigree runs deeper than almost anything else on sale in the class, with few rivals carrying as much accumulated race-winning knowledge into their design. Even now, long after several rivals abandoned the 600cc supersport class entirely, Honda continues to develop and refine it in earnest.
Its 599cc liquid-cooled inline-four, with a 67 x 42.5mm bore and stroke and a high 12.2:1 compression ratio, produces 89kW at a screaming 14,250rpm and 63Nm of torque at 11,500rpm. Tuned for maximum top-end output with a useful spread of mid-range drive, it channels through a six-speed manual gearbox with a wet multiplate hydraulic clutch, and a clutchless quickshifter with auto-blip downshifts keeps the focus entirely on the next apex rather than the lever at the rider’s left foot.
An aluminium twin-tube composite twin-spar frame carries a fully adjustable 41mm Showa Big Piston USD fork with 120mm of stroke and a fully adjustable Showa Pro-Link rear shock with 128mm of axle travel, both tuneable for road or track. Radial-mount four-piston calipers grip 310mm floating front discs, with a single-piston caliper on a 220mm rear disc, and Dunlop Roadsport 2 tyres complete the package. At 193kg, with a 1,370mm wheelbase, 125mm of ground clearance and an 820mm seat height, it is compact, light and razor precise through direction changes, with a close-coupled riding position, high rear-set footpegs and low clip-on bars that keep the rider tucked in tight behind the small screen at speed.
An Inertial Measurement Unit reads the bike’s every movement 100 times a second, managing HSTC, wheelie control, cornering ABS and rear lift control, with electronic and aerodynamic technology trickling down directly from Honda’s RC213V-S. It suits track day enthusiasts and experienced riders wanting a true race replica for the road, built to reward smooth, deliberate inputs over brute force.
