The Honda CRF300 Rally takes the popular CRF300L platform and reshapes it around the look and long-range thinking of Honda’s HRC CRF450 RALLY race bike, built for riders who want to travel further off the beaten track without stepping up to a full-size adventure machine. It sits between a pure trail bike and a proper adventure tourer, and it wears that dual purpose with real presence, drawing an obvious crowd wherever it is parked.
Power comes from the same 286cc liquid-cooled DOHC single found in the CRF300L, producing a lively 20.1kW at 8,500rpm and 26.6Nm of torque at 6,500rpm through a slick six-speed gearbox. It is a genuinely eager unit for its size, happy to be worked hard on a gravel track or held at a steady cruise on the way there, and the extra gearing range gives it real pace on faster tarmac stretches between trails.
A 43mm inverted telescopic fork and a Pro-Link rear shock, over a 1,455mm wheelbase, give the CRF300 Rally the suspension travel to soak up ruts and rough surfaces with confidence, while a 296mm front disc with a twin-piston caliper and a 220mm rear disc, running on 80/100-21 and 120/80-18 tyres, provide strong, controlled stopping on loose ground as well as the road. An 885mm seat height and a raised handlebar position suit standing on the pegs over rougher terrain, and at 153kg it stays light enough to manage when the going gets technical, even fully loaded with soft luggage for a longer trip.
A wind-cheating nose fairing and screen, styled directly on the works rally bike, cut fatigue at speed, while a generous 12.8 litre fuel tank, notably larger than a standard trail bike’s, stretches range for the genuinely long days in the saddle that rally-style adventure riding demands. It suits the rider who wants to explore further afield on a light, agile machine rather than commit to the size and weight of a full adventure tourer, whether that means an unsupported multi-day route or simply a longer weekend loop through unfamiliar lanes.
