The Kawasaki Ninja 7 Hybrid is one of the most genuinely different motorcycles on sale anywhere, the world’s first strong hybrid production motorcycle and a machine that reframes what a Ninja can be. Built around a 451cc liquid-cooled parallel twin paired with an integrated electric motor, it sits apart from the rest of the Ninja range as a technical showcase that is every bit as usable as it is novel, wearing sharp, contemporary Ninja styling that gives little away about the hybrid hardware working beneath its bodywork. Unlike a plug-in hybrid, the whole system recharges itself on the move through the engine and regenerative braking, so there are no cables or charging points to worry about.
The combustion engine, with DOHC eight-valve heads, a bore and stroke of 70 by 58.6mm, an 11.7:1 compression ratio and dual 36mm throttle bodies, works alongside the electric motor for a combined 43.5kW (59PS) at 10,500rpm and 60.4Nm of torque at just 2,800rpm, and with e-boost engaged, acceleration from a standstill is comparable to a 1000cc-class supersport. There is no clutch lever to operate; gear changes through the six-speed transmission happen with a simple button press, and an integrated starter generator manages the switch between electric and combined power seamlessly.
A trellis-style high-tensile steel frame with 104mm of trail carries the 227kg machine on a 41mm telescopic fork and a preload-adjustable Uni-Trak shock, across a 1,535mm wheelbase and 130mm of ground clearance, with dual 300mm front discs and a single 250mm rear disc providing the stopping power through 120-section front and 160-section rear tyres. The 795mm seat height keeps the riding position approachable given the bike’s added hybrid hardware, and a 14 litre tank rounds out the package.
Three distinct drive modes let riders choose between electric-only running around town, a combined-power setting, and full-output performance, and thanks to its battery capacity, the Ninja 7 Hybrid is genuinely capable of covering short journeys on electric power alone, with fuel economy elsewhere closer to a 250cc machine than a full-size twin. It suits curious, technically minded riders who want to experience genuine innovation without giving up everyday usability or outright performance.
