The Kawasaki Ninja H2 SX SE sits above the standard machine as the range-topping standard trim, pairing Kawasaki’s supercharged sports tourer with the fullest equipment specification available before Performance or Tourer packages are even considered. It represents Kawasaki’s most complete take on a technology first developed for the extreme H2 hypersport, reworked here for comfortable, everyday distance riding behind the same full fairing and purposeful bodywork, all built around one of the most technically ambitious engines sold on two wheels.
The 998cc liquid-cooled in-line four keeps its supercharger, DOHC 16-valve heads, 11.2:1 compression ratio and dual 40mm throttle bodies, producing 147.1kW at 11,000rpm and a substantial 137.3Nm of torque at 8,500rpm. That supercharger is a compact centrifugal design built in-house by Kawasaki, drawing on the group’s aerospace and gas turbine background, and requires no intercooler thanks to its efficient impeller geometry. Delivered through a six-speed dog-ring gearbox and wet multi-disc clutch, that output is available low in the rev range as much as at the top, so effortless progress is on hand whether filtering through city traffic or opening the throttle on a clear stretch of dual carriageway, with digital ignition and wet sump lubrication plus an oil cooler keeping everything working consistently.
A trellis-style high-tensile steel frame with a swingarm mounting plate and 103mm of trail carries the 267kg machine on a 43mm inverted fork with KECS-controlled damping and 120mm of travel, and a New Uni Trak rear shock with electronic preload adjustment and 139mm of travel, across a 1,480mm wheelbase. Dual semi-floating 320mm discs with radial-mount monobloc calipers provide the braking, and the 835mm seat height keeps the rider settled and in control with 130mm of ground clearance.
Adaptive cruise control and blind spot detection through the ARAS system, a 6.5 inch colour TFT running Kawasaki’s SPIN infotainment, and Auto Hi Beam headlight management come as standard on the SE, all supported by a 19 litre tank for genuine range. It suits riders who want the most comprehensively equipped version of Kawasaki’s supercharged flagship without stepping into the Performance or Tourer sub-ranges.
