The Kawasaki Ninja H2 SX is where Kawasaki’s supercharged story crosses over into everyday riding, taking technology developed for the extreme H2 hypersport and packaging it as a genuinely usable sports tourer. At its heart is a 998cc liquid-cooled in-line four with a supercharger fitted, running DOHC 16-valve heads, an 11.2:1 compression ratio and dual fuel injection through 40mm throttle bodies, producing a formidable 147.1kW at 11,000rpm and 137.3Nm of torque at 8,500rpm. The supercharger itself is a compact centrifugal design engineered in-house by Kawasaki, drawing on the group’s aerospace and gas turbine expertise, and needs no intercooler thanks to its efficient impeller design. That power is sent through a six-speed dog-ring gearbox and wet multi-disc clutch, with digital ignition and forced induction filling in the midrange so that overtakes arrive with almost no need to change down, whatever gear the bike happens to be in, while wet sump lubrication with an oil cooler keeps temperatures in check under sustained load.
A trellis-style high-tensile steel frame with a swingarm mounting plate and 103mm of trail carries the 267kg machine on a 43mm inverted fork with KECS-controlled damping and 120mm of travel, and a New Uni Trak rear shock with a piggyback reservoir and 139mm of travel, across a 1,480mm wheelbase. Dual semi-floating 320mm discs with Brembo Stylema monobloc calipers provide the stopping power, and the 835mm seat height puts the rider in a commanding, confident position with 130mm of ground clearance in hand.
Kawasaki’s ARAS system brings adaptive cruise control and blind spot detection to the riding experience, a 6.5 inch colour TFT display runs the SPIN infotainment system for navigation and connectivity, and Auto Hi Beam dips and raises the headlight automatically as traffic approaches, all backed by a 19 litre tank for genuine range.
