The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10RR sits above the standard ZX-10R as Kawasaki’s homologation special supersport, built to the same recipe that has delivered seven WorldSBK titles but finished specifically for riders who take circuit performance seriously. It is the machine Kawasaki builds when the standard ZX-10R simply is not focused enough, wearing subtly different detailing that marks it out as the model built primarily to satisfy racing regulations.
Its 998cc liquid-cooled in-line four is tuned slightly differently to the standard bike, with DOHC 16-valve heads, a 76 by 55mm bore and stroke, a 13.0:1 compression ratio and dual 47mm throttle bodies producing 147.1kW (200PS) at 13,600rpm and 111Nm of torque at 11,500rpm through a six-speed cassette gearbox and wet multi-disc clutch. The character is shaped around circuit use as much as road riding, with digital ignition and an oil-cooled wet sump supporting a delivery that rewards higher corner speeds and committed riding rather than lazy short-shifting.
A twin-spar cast aluminium frame with 105mm of trail keeps the 207kg machine exceptionally agile, running a 43mm inverted Balance Free Front Fork with an external compression chamber and 120mm of travel, and a Horizontal Back-link BFRC rear shock with a piggyback reservoir and 115mm of travel, across a 1,450mm wheelbase and 135mm of ground clearance. Dual semi-floating 330mm Brembo discs with Brembo M50 monobloc calipers provide the stopping power through 120-section front and 190-section rear tyres, and the 835mm seat height sets a genuinely committed riding position. The aerodynamic winglets generate real downforce at speed, keeping the front wheel planted under hard acceleration in the lower gears, and like the standard bike its cassette-style gearbox, borrowed from Kawasaki’s World Superbike paddock, allows ratios to be changed without splitting the engine cases.
WorldSBK-developed Balance Free Front Fork and Balance Free Rear Cushion suspension deliver exceptional feedback and light, precise handling at the very limit, while a state-of-the-art electronics package and 17 litre tank keep that performance manageable the moment the road or track finally opens up.
