The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R carries Kawasaki’s supersport obsession into the 600 class, styled directly from the flagship ZX-10R with new front and side cowls that flow smoothly from its compact headlights all the way back to the tail unit. It sits within a Ninja family built almost entirely around track-derived engineering, distilled here into a 2,025mm long, 710mm wide package that rewards regular road riding as much as an occasional track day.
Its 636cc liquid-cooled in-line four, with DOHC 16-valve heads, a 67 by 45.1mm bore and stroke, a 12.9:1 compression ratio and fuel injection through 38mm throttle bodies with oval sub-throttles, produces around 124PS and 69Nm of torque at 10,800rpm through a six-speed gearbox and wet multi-disc clutch. The extra capacity over a standard 600 gives it a noticeably stronger midrange, so the high-revving character the ZX badge is known for arrives without leaving the bike breathless lower down, aided by digital ignition and an oil-cooled wet sump. Kawasaki has always built the ZX-6R around this slightly larger 636cc capacity rather than the 599 to 600cc favoured by rival supersports, trading a fraction of outright top end for extra real-world drive out of slower corners.
A perimeter-style aluminium frame keeps the 198kg machine sharp and composed, running a 41mm inverted SFF-BP fork with adjustable compression and rebound damping and 120mm of travel, and a Bottom-Link Uni Trak rear shock with a piggyback reservoir and 151mm of travel, across a 1,400mm wheelbase and 130mm of ground clearance. Dual semi-floating 310mm discs with radial-mount monobloc calipers provide the stopping power through 120-section front and 180-section rear tyres, and the 830mm seat height sets a committed, sporting riding position.
An all-LED lighting package and four selectable riding modes, covering Sport, Road, Rain and a fully manual Rider setting, let you tune traction control and power delivery to match the conditions and your own confidence, with a 17 litre tank for genuine range.
