The Yamaha NMAX 155 Tech MAX is the largest-engined and most technologically advanced NMAX Yamaha builds, adding genuine mid-size performance to the range’s iconic MAX-inspired styling. Its 155cc liquid-cooled single, with a 58.0mm by 58.7mm bore and stroke, SOHC, four valves and an 11.6 to 1 compression ratio, produces 15.1PS (11.1kW) at 8,000rpm and a useful 14.0Nm of torque at 6,500rpm through a smooth V-belt automatic transmission, giving noticeably more punch than the 125cc models in the range, particularly useful for A-roads and dual carriageways where the smaller NMAX models can feel stretched and out of their depth.
An underbone frame carries a telescopic fork with 100mm of travel and a twin-shock unit swing rear end offering 91mm of travel, running on 110/70 front and 130/70 rear tyres on lightweight 13-inch wheels, shod with 230mm hydraulic discs front and rear working through ABS for strong, progressive braking and confident traction in the wet, and the extra grip is especially welcome when carrying a passenger or luggage. At 131kg with a 1,340mm wheelbase and 125mm of ground clearance, it stays manageable at a standstill despite the extra performance, and a 770mm seat height keeps it approachable in traffic for most riders.
A connected TFT colour dashboard with Garmin navigation, full LED lighting and boomerang-motif bodywork mark it out as the range’s technology flagship, while a 7.1-litre tank keeps the smooth suspension and refined seat working for genuine comfort over longer trips as well as the daily commute.
